South Abingdon Easter Art Pop-Up: A Creative Space for All Ages
Makespace Oxford are excited to host a unique Art pop-up project in South Abingdon this Easter that brings together local creatives, families, young people, and individuals from all walks of life to explore, create, and connect. With a focus on sustainability and community, this pop-up will highlight the importance of upskilling, encourage intergenerational interaction, and offer opportunities for creativity to flourish.
Creating Possibilities for the Future
Our Easter Art Pop-Up is more than just an event; it’s a project designed to complement and signpost existing groups and provision in the area. By adopting an open doors approach, we’re welcoming people of all ages—from young children to older generations—to join in the fun. Whether you’re a family looking to spend quality time together, a student wanting to learn new skills, or a seasoned creative eager to share your talents, this space is for you.
The pop-up is also a fantastic opportunity to focus on sustainability. By upskilling local people, we aim to inspire individuals to think creatively about the future, making conscious choices that will positively impact our environment.
Opportunities for Local Creatives
One of the core goals of the pop-up is to provide local artists with paid opportunities to showcase their work. This event is a platform for talented creatives to lead and facilitate workshops, with full support from Makespace Oxford, ensuring that everything is structured and well-resourced.
Local Artists like Anna Lockwood, renowned for her beautiful bird paintings, will be guiding participants in creating moving red kites—an activity that blends both fun and meaningful Video (1)creativity. Red kites are renowned for the area! Joining her is Jade Evans, a talented local artist, and Sarah Keenan, an expert in forest schools and founder of New Leaf Forest School, who will help facilitate the activities and ensure a safe and engaging experience for all. Both Sarah and Jade created this incredible nature mural at The Local Sailing Club and as part of the South Abingdon Nature Trail.
A Safe and Inspiring Space for All
We’re creating an inclusive and inspiring space where people of all ages can work alongside one another. Carefully planned activities, a range of tools, and tailored support will provide participants with the opportunity to develop new skills, express their creativity, and build connections with others in the community.
This event is part of the ongoing Communities Together initiative, which is focused on addressing local needs, combating social isolation, and fostering a sense of belonging for everyone. By providing activities that support social connection and inclusion, we aim to create a positive, lasting impact in the community.
Looking to the Future: Regenerative Futures
One of the key themes of the event is to spark thought about our habits and the ecological impact we have on the world around us. Through hands-on activities, participants will reflect on sustainability, explore new methods of creative expression, and think about how we can all play a part in regenerative futures—fostering an environmentally-conscious approach to creativity and daily life.
A Celebration of Local Identity and Talent
The pop-up event offers a chance to celebrate local identity and pride. Through exploring different arts and crafts, we hope to uncover the hidden gifts of young people and others in the community, building aspiration and fostering creativity for the future.
We invite everyone—from families to individuals—to pop in, try new things, and discover the joy of creating something unique. Whether you’re new to the area or have lived here for years, this is a fantastic opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate the wealth of creativity that exists in our community.
