Reimagining Fashion: The Creative Me Window Display at Madrina Abingdon

Over the past 12 weeks, the Creative Me team has been immersed in an exciting journey of creativity, collaboration, and self-expression. Through a dedicated visual merchandising and upcycled clothing programme, we explored the art of storytelling through display, learning how to bring ideas to life while working together as a team. Our focus? Individuality—celebrating what makes each of us unique and translating that into a show-stopping installation.

Our journey began with building vision boards, where the group explored themes, colours, and inspirations to guide the creative process. This led to a hands-on experience of shopping and trying on prom dresses, gaining an understanding of styles, fits, and personal expression. We also introduced fashion illustrations, allowing participants to sketch their design ideas and refine their creative visions. Additionally, we had the privilege of welcoming Taiwo from Taiwil Fashion, who shared valuable insights on alterations and how to transform garments for the perfect fit.

Throughout the programme, we committed to using only pre-loved materials, reinforcing the importance of sustainability and innovation in fashion.

Our collaboration with Madrina in Abingdon was the perfect opportunity to put these skills into action. Madrina’s mission to provide free prom dresses to young people aligned beautifully with our values of sustainability, self-expression, and re-imagining fashion. Throughout the programme, our young people explored ways to upcycle and transform pre-loved garments, giving them new life and purpose.

From bold colour palettes to intricate embellishments, every piece in our final display tells a story of creativity and confidence. We played with texture, layering, and unexpected details, ensuring that each dress reflected the theme of being your unique self. The installation process last week was a culmination of weeks of hard work, and seeing the finished window come to life was an incredible moment for all involved.

This project is a testament to the power of creative workshops, teamwork, and the magic of re-imagining fashion with sustainability in mind. If you’re in Abingdon, we invite you to take a look at our display at Madrina and celebrate the talent, vision, and dedication of the Creative Me team!

At its core, Creative Me is about more than just fashion—it's about building confidence, exploring identity, and embracing our individual magic. We place a strong focus on understanding neurodiverse needs and adapting our approach to foster social interaction in a way that feels supportive and empowering. Through creativity, we create a space where everyone can shine, express themselves, and develop skills that extend far beyond the workshop.
